USAID Jordan, through its Local Enterprise Support Project (LENS) held a graduation ceremony for 20 women plumbers under its new initiative to support females working in non-traditional sectors.

 

The graduation event was held to acknowledge the successful completion of an extensive training program for 20 women plumbers in Zarqa from November 2016 to April 2017.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Government of Jordan launched Local Economic Development (LED) plans today for nine municipalities in the governorates of Amman, Irbid and Zarqa. Held under the patronage of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, the launch event brought together public and private sector representatives to explore means of collaboration and investment in the local communities.

The Forum, held under the patronage of the Central Bank of Jordan, brought together industry leaders to discuss how emerging technologies and innovative digital approaches can give Jordanian businesses better opportunities to grow, develop and manage their financial livelihoods.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) recently awarded $270,000 (JD 191,160) to the National Microfinance Bank (NMB) to establish a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Department. This grant will allow one of Jordan’s leading microfinance institutions to reach an under-served market of Jordanian micro and small enterprises that are too large for group lending, but too small to obtain bank loans. More than 700 MSMEs across the kingdom will be able to access more than $1.5 million in credit facilities as a direct result of this grant.

The USAID Jordan Local Enterprise Support Project (LENS) recently provided technical and financial support to the Companies Control Department through the procurement of a data server and storage array valued at JD 100,000. This new high-performance database server will enable the CCD to enhance the efficiency of business registration processes for micro and small businesses across Jordan. Improving and easing the process of business registration and licensing is vital to private-sector growth.

The USAID Jordan Local Enterprise Support Project (LENS) signed an agreement today with Safeway Jordan to support the competitiveness of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) and cooperatives in Jordan’s food-processing sector. The partnership will provide four businesses with the training and support necessary to become suppliers for Safeway, benefitting a total of 142 employees and members of participating Irbid MSEs and cooperatives. Partner MSEs will initially include producers of packaged and processed dairy, vegetable, and pickled goods in the Irbid Governorate.

At its inaugural event in Irbid, the USAID/Jordan Local Enterprise Support Project (LENS) launched 12 new grants in targeted governorates to support the growth of micro and small enterprises (MSEs). The USAID LENS project aims to support economic growth in disadvantaged areas by providing assistance to MSEs and by helping Local Development Units plan and implement activities that bring growth and investment to communities.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Government of Jordan (GOJ) signed a memorandum today acknowledging $250 million in economic development assistance to Jordan over five years. In addition, USAID announced the launch of its Local Enterprise Support Project to spur economic growth in Zarqa and Amman Governorate outside of Greater Amman Municipality.

Ten municipalities in Zarqa, Irbid and Amman governorates have been selected through a competitive process to partner with the USAID Jordan Local Enterprise Support Project (LENS) to promote economic growth in their communities.

The municipalities are: Azraq, Dulail, Hashmeyeh and Greater Zarqa in Zarqa Governorate; Tabaqet Fahel, Muath Bin Jabal, Shou’la and Mazar in Irbid Governorate; and Na’ur and Amreyya in Amman Governorate.
