On March 18, 2019 and under the patronage of H.E. Samir Murad, Minister of Labor and with supported by USAID LENS, Al Nashmeyah Arms for Maintenance Center held a graduation ceremony celebrating the first group of women to complete the advanced level vocational training course certified by the Center for Accreditation and Quality Assurance (CAQA).
The center is owned and run by local businesswoman Khawla Al Sheikh, the only woman to be certified as a Plumbing and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) trainer in Jordan. It is the first center in Jordan to offer vocational training for women in plumbing and maintenance services certified by the CAQA.
USAID enhances women’s economic empowerment in Jordan by facilitating women’s participation in sectors that are generally considered ‘non-traditional’ for women. To date, USAID LENS has helped over 150 women grow and develop their businesses in non-traditional sectors, most of them in the maintenance sector.
