In September 2018, USAID LENS launched the Adventure Leaders Universal Competence Training Program in partnership with the Adventure Travel and Trade Association (ATTA).
The training was designed based on competence standards for adventure guides, developed with the Ministry of Tourism and others on the Adventure Tourism Stakeholders Committee during the months of June and August 2018. The participants, including three women, were selected based on their experience as guides in the adventure travel industry.
Their attendance of the training was to help improve their skills and bring them to par with international standards of the profession. The four-day training covered different topics such as; navigation, safety and risk management, customer and group management as well as an introduction to other needed skills to support a more robust, safe and enjoyable adventure tourism experiences.
